Less than a month is left before the Rugby World Cup 2019 starts.

Lewis Carroll (1832-1898), who is famous for his "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland", attended Rugby School in England.

According to the legend, on August 24, 1823, a student named William Webb Ellis, during a school match, picked up the ball and ran with it. This has been believed to be the origin of rugby by many sports fans, and Webb’s name became the name for the trophy, the Webb Ellis Cup, awarded to the winner of the Rugby World Cup,

If you are not a rugby fan, you might wonder why a try is called a "try", not a "goal".
In early days, a try had zero value itself, but allowed the attacking team to try a kick at goal. Only when the kick was successful, a score was won.
